May 2008

Memorial Day.

My Father was a dive bomb pilot in the Asian theatre in WWII

Bronze Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, others.
He never talked much about it, and never flew an airplane again.

I remember.

April 2008 :

Godzilla is holding Barney in her fervent palm,
in front of the Skybaby building on Main St.

Lately, other plastic dinosaurs have been found
cavorting about the shrine.

Birds of a feather…

March 2008 :

Village Elections, 2006.

Karn and Seth join me on the Village Board of Trustees,
In a surprise upset, they defeated both incumbents.

Many good things in store for our Village.

February 2008 :

The Grove, a relic from the 1840’s, when she served as the Infirmary
For the West Point Foundry at Cold Spring.

Designed and built by the famous architect John Upchurch,
the Village is in the process of restoring her. A difficult task in this
day and age, but one that must be done.

History is all we’ve got.

January 2008 :

Scott’s basket case runabout ended up on John’s yard.

“It’s sculpture”, he said, and he was right.

Only she didn’t last, by Spring, she was cut up and gone…

December 2007 :

The social center of Cold Spring on Hudson, the Pizza parlor.

They have a generator, so when the blizzard knocks out power,
The Pizza parlor is always open.

When power is out, everybody comes down for a slice.
Nick and Tony and Charlie serve up the Best…

November 2007 :

The last lonely sailor on the mighty Hudson.

Though it was November, the southerly winds
blowing past Crows Nest mountain kept the weather moderate,
as well as foggy.

Her lovely gaff rig reminded me of the river a century ago.
Only there would have been a lot more of them.

October 2007 :
The crew of the Cold Spring Boat Club just finished a cold and wet work detail, pulling out our floating docks for the year.

The good news is we’re done with the work.

The bad news is no more boats in the water.

Until Spring...
